Discover the Three Palaces Festival!

Where the ordinary is actually extraordinary

Despite being a fairly recent addition to Malta’s cultural calendar, the interdisciplinary Three Palaces Festival has taken the islands by storm. During the past few years, we’ve experienced theatre, dance and music events coming to life inside the stunning palaces and churches that exist on the Maltese islands. While the most prominent buildings that act as settings for these artistic performances are located within the city of Valletta, the festival has branched out to include other beautiful locations around Malta.

The Three Palaces Festival will take place between the 1st and 10th November, so don’t miss out on the spectacular event if you’re staying in Valletta!

Historical Venues for the Three Palaces Festival

The Three Palaces Festival is a celebration of music, theatre and dance, within the setting of some of Malta’s most beautiful historical buildings, built by the Knights of St John. Among the baroque buildings that will play host to different events during the festival, are the National Museum of Archaeology, Casino Maltese, The Church of St Dominic and the Church of St Catherine of Italy in Valletta. Outside of the city, there will also be performances taking place at the picturesque Palazzo Parisio in Naxxar and the fortified medieval city of Mdina.

An excellent line-up

The Three Palaces Festival will include both local and international performers. This includes the celebrated Valletta International Baroque Ensemble, The Goldberg Trio from Lucerne in Switzerland, and Canadian pianist Angela Hewitt. Moreover, Finnish musician Juulia Pölönen will be playing the marvellous Kantele instrument during an evening at the Church of St Catherine of Italy.

There will be two theatre events during the festival, which are the Orfeo Experience at Casino Maltese and ‘La Conversione di un Cavallo: Tableaux Vivants da Caravaggio’ at the Church of St Mary Magdalene in the town of Dingli. For lovers of Dance, the festival has incorporated a Dance Tour that will be held at the Archaeology Musuem in Valletta.
