Blown Glass Christmas Tree

Valletta Gets Ready for the Christmas Season

It has become almost a yearly tradition to have a tree, for the festive season, set up in Valletta. The first blown glass tree was set up in 2011 by the local glass blowers, Mdina Glass. It takes the form of a seven metre glass tree that has over 2,000 handmade glass baubles, attached to an inner structure.

Before this beautiful and majestic tree is lit up at City Gate, there is a lot of work to be done, every year. All the metal works and hooks on baubles need to be replaced and all the baubles are checked with scrutiny for any damages.

Christmas Tree

The inspiration behind this Mdina Glass tree was, initially, simply to create a festive vibe as soon as you enter our capital city. The Mdina Glass team wanted to build a tree that was made out of glass which was also safe to leave outside. All in all, the main aim is to produce an artistic tree that is one of a kind.

Valletta is the perfect place to be home to this magnificent tree. The tree deserves the best location and our capital city is the perfect place to showcase its beauty.

However, the work does not stop after the tree is lit. The Mdina Glass team would like to keep having the tree up every year. In fact, they are already working on a different version for Christmas 2018.

We cannot wait to see what they have in store for us next year!
